Alpár Főcze - Visual artist
My name is Alpár Főcze. I was born on 3 January 1995 in Gyimesbükk (Ghimeș-Făget). I grew up in a valley surrounded by mountains and forests, in one of the easternmost parts of Transylvania. Currently, I'm living and working in Budapest.
In my art, I primarily present the peasant life and folk culture of the Gyimes Valley, but secondarily, on a pan-European level, I describe the difficulties and challenges of rural life. Unfortunately, traditional rural social structures are disappearing. It is important to address this issue, otherwise, we will lose our local cultural heritage, which is a reflection of the pure source of life and creation. This comes from archaic closeness to nature and spirituality represented in a well-balanced contrast between the profane and sacral way of existence. To refuse rural life is to refuse our origins. But can a tree deny it's roots?
